As the Professional School Counselor, I provide support to students by conducting in-class counseling lessons and short-term small group and individual counseling sessions. I work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community. The services I provide are unique to the school setting and should not be mistaken as long-term or therapeutic in nature. I also work to provide vetted community resource information to benefit families in need of support.
Classroom Counseling Lessons: Classroom counseling lessons are developmentally appropriate and preventative in nature. Topics may include lessons on bullying, safety, conflict resolution, career exploration, etc.
Small Group Counseling: These closed counseling sessions provide short term counseling (four to six sessions) for students experiencing similar concerns. Students are not added to these groups once they have begun. Groups may focus on stress and anxiety, anger management, peer relationships and social skills, responsibility and study skills, improving self-esteem and coping with loss or family changes. Groups range in size from 4 to 6 students.
Individual Counseling: Short-term, one-on-one counseling is available to students referred by teachers, staff, or parents. Students may also self-refer. These sessions are brief and not on-going. Students may require outside counseling if concerns are outside of my scope of practice.
Family Resources: Depending on family needs, I may be able to offer information to parents based on their individual need. I would not be able to walk families through the process with agencies but may be able to provide contact information on vetted community resources that may be of service to them.
**Confidentiality**The counseling relationship is one built upon trust. Information discussed between your child and me is confidential unless they disclose they are planning to hurt themselves, planning to hurt someone else, or being hurt by someone. I look forward to continuing to work with students and families throughout the school year.
